The Upper Moreland Soccer Club is proud to award the 2011 Volunteer(s) of the Year award to Dean Swedberg and Michelle Winter. Both Dean and Michelle have been with the Upper Moreland Soccer Club for a long time but this year, in particular, their efforts have gone above and beyond to ensure the success of the UMSC.  Both were ever present in all that the club was able to accomplish in 2011.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking both Dean and Michelle for their hard work and dedication to our club, our township and most importantly our children.

Hello Upper Moreland Soccer Families!  I am writing today to give you the opportunity to make a difference in your child’s experience as a player in our Soccer Club. I know we are a little late on this but your feedback is essential for the growth of our coaches and club. The following survey has been created to allow you to provide feedback on your experience with our Club and to allow us to better understand where we are doing well and where we need to improve. Your feedback is critical to us. The survey is completely anonymous.  Should you wish to be contacted please place your name and contact information in any of the comment fields in the survey and you will be contacted by the Director of Player Development.  We would appreciate any and all information you can provide and we will be reviewing the results in our February Board Meeting.  Your feedback can make the Club better for its most important members, our kids.

Fund raising is essential to the success of our club. The proceeds from fund raising enable the club to purchase the essential equipment needed for training, practice and game playing. All of this in turn betters the development of our players in all ages.

Intermural Select – U8 Boys
The success of our Intramural program was evident when our Under-8 Boys Intramural Select team, nick-named the Lightning, took 3rd place in the Parkwood Thanksgiving Intramural Tournament. The boys competed with 16 other clubs. In going undefeated in their division, the boys racked up 15 Goals for and 0 goals against in 3 games. The boys then lost a tight 1-0 game to Fox Chase in the semifinals. The boys rebounded and beat NEO 1-0 to capture 3rd place. A great job by the boys all around. It really shows the growth of our Intramural program. Congratulations Boys!

Travel

In Travel, Upper Moreland fielded 15 teams between boys and girls. Teams ranging from Under 8 to Under 14 battled through the Inter County soccer league representing UMSC proudly. Two teams won the Inter-county Championship for their age group. They are:

U9 Girls – Upper Moreland Highlighters: With a record of 7-2-1 and 27 Goals for and 11 Goals against for the season. Their only two losses of the season were lost by 1 goal apiece. The Highlighters were coached by Brian Zachwieja and William Galbreath.

U10 Girls – Upper Moreland Lightning: With a record of 8-0-2 and 34 Goals for and 3 Goals against for the season. Even more amazing all 3 goals against were scored in the first two games for the Lightning before they went on a 7 game run without letting up a goal. The Lightning are coached by Norman Jensen.

Three teams finished in second in their age group and they are:

U11 Boys – Upper Moreland Celtic: Record of 8-1-1 and 40 Goals for and 7 Goals against for the season. The Celtics are coached by Robert Opferman.

U13 Girls – Upper Moreland Thunderbirds: Record of 5-4-1 and 12 Goals for and 9 Goals against for the season. The Thunderbirds are coached by Stephen Williams.

U13 Boys – Upper Moreland UMSC 1860 Lions: Record of 6-1-3 and 19 Goals for and 1 Goal against for the season. The Lions are coached by David Gerlach.

Congratulations to these and all our travel teams on a very successful 2011 Campaign! A special thanks to all the parents and family members who make the trek each week while piling up mileage on their car to see the kids play. Your support and dedication is much appreciated by UMSC!

CLEAN UP DAY

The Upper Moreland Soccer Club in coordination with the Upper Moreland Parks and Recreation Department will be arranging the 2^nd annual community clean up day.

TIME: SATURDAY JULY 30^th

FROM: 8:00AM – 12:00 PM

LOCATION: BOILEAU PARK – BYBERRY & ORANGEMANS ROADS

NEEDS:       PARKS & REC WILL BRING SUPPLIES BUT WE COULD USE ADDITIONAL WEED WHACKERS, RAKES AND OTHER YARD SUPPLIES.

THIS CLEAN UP EFFORT WILL FOCUS ON SOME MINOR LANDSCAPING DETAIL, THE CLEARING OF BRUSH, AND REMOVAL OF ANY LITTER JUST TO NAME A FEW THINGS.

THERE WILL BE A PICK UP GAME FOR KIDS, COACHES AND PARENTS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING AT PILEGGI PARK.

BRING A FRIEND OR TWO & PASS THE WORD.
