Intramural Programs

Spring Intramural Soccer

Program: Early April through Mid-June

Age Groups: Boys and Girls ages 5 through 11

Program Overview and Guidelines

Our SPRING SOCCER program is an intramural program geared toward children, ages five to eleven years, who want to play organized soccer outside of the regular Fall Season.  It is perfect for children who are new to the game, or for children who want to sharpen their skills for the Fall Season.  Spring Soccer is a time for parents and children to have fun and learn the fundamentals of soccer.  The season will start the beginning of April and will end around the beginning of June.

Our Spring Soccer Program is broken into three groups; five and six year olds play together, seven and eight year olds play together, and nine, ten, & eleven year olds play together.

Games are played on Sunday afternoons for all ages.  Games start at 1PM, 2PM, or 3PM as scheduled.  The first 15 minutes of the one-hour session is devoted to practice and warm-up, with the remainder of the time spent on the field in game format.

There are a few rules that we follow for Spring Soccer:

  • We require shin pads for all children on the field.  No Shin Pads, No Play.?
  • Although strongly suggested, we do not require cleats.  If cleats are worn, we require that they do not have a toe cleat.  Soccer cleats are preferred, but baseball cleats are acceptable if the toe cleat is removed.?
  • Players should not wear jeans for games.  The rivets can cause injury to other players during games.?
  • We follow the Mercy Rule.  If a team is winning by 4 goals, the losing team adds a player, 5 goals add 2 players, etc…  If the losing team has all players on the field, the winning team begins to remove players.  The losing team will remove a player with each equalizing goal.?
  • No Direct Penalty Kicks.?
  • No yelling at the referees.  All of our referees are kids from our club.  They have varying levels of experience, and do their best.  Please give them the respect and encouragement they deserve.  If there are any issues, please let the director at the field know.?
  • The objective of our Spring Soccer program is to have fun, introduce soccer to the inexperienced children, and brush up on the skills of the experienced children.  We require that the intensity level of our coaches and parents be appropriate.

Coaches Responsibilities?

  1. Equipment?
    • Each 1PM coach, or their designate, is responsible for retrieving a goal bag from the equipment boxes next to the Track Field House, and setting it up at their designated field.?
    • Each goal bag will contain a goal frame, net, and a ball.?
    • Each 3PM coach, or their designate, is responsible for breaking down a goal, placing it in the goal bag with one ball, and taking the goal bag back to the equipment boxes next to the Track & Field house.??
  2. Each team should patrol your designated field for trash and place it in the trash cans at the field.?
  3. The parents on the sideline are the coach’s responsibility.  If you see or hear someone on your sideline being unsportsmanlike, please quite him or her.  No on should be yelling at the other team or the referees.
